LIGHTWEIGHT HYBRID STEEL STRUCTURES

"The Lightweight Hybrid Steel Structures will save you money & is erected quicker than a conventional structural steel building." Quintin Venter (General Manager)

QM Steel CC has developed the Lightweight Hybrid Steel Structures as an alternative to the conventional steel used in factories; warehouses; shopping centres and other types of steel buildings.

DIRECT SAVING OF UPTO 40% TO THE DEVELOPER

Conventional steel engineering designs vary from 19 kg/square metre to 30kg/square metre and sometimes more. Although the look and shape of these structures has evolved in the last 60 years, the concept and design criteria have not changed. Factories still rely on boilermakers and welders to put together and weld the structural steel members. An obvious limitation of the conventional fabrication process is the transportable length of steel members. Erection becomes more expensive, due to the longer and bigger loads.

Another "in-factory" problem is the ever diminishing complement of qualified boilermakers and welders. With the current world-wide economic crisis resulting in banks being reluctant when it comes to financing new developments, it is clear that only lean/workable building concepts and feasibilities will be considered for bonding by the financial institutions.

The Lightweight Hybrid Steel Structures offers a solution in combining conventional hot-rolled steel with high strength light-weight galvanized steel.

The new design method and technology offers the following benefits as an alternative to traditional concepts:

  • Design weight is down to 15kg/square metre and less
  • A mobile factory makes it possible to roll and fabricate without boilermakers and welders on site.
  • Supervised fabrication, using local labour, becomes a cost-saving factor.
  • The length of fabricated members is unlimited
